Shivan Fazil, an Iraqi expert at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, says the war in Iraq created conditions for extremism. In a joint program by CGTN and Rudaw Media Network, Fazil says that even though the U.S. didn't anticipate this outcome, the war led to the rise of Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State. He also says the political system introduced by the U.S. in Iraq has not yet brought the benefits that were promised to the people.
