Zhang Weiwei compares Chinese democracy to Western democracy
00:58

Professor Zhang Weiwei, director of the China Institute at Fudan University, says Chinese democracy focuses more on substantial democracy, while Western democracy places more emphasis on procedural democracy. Democracy in the West is more or less equivalent to one person, one vote, universal suffrage, plus a multi-party system. But the Chinese approach is much more sophisticated, focusing more on the purpose and objectives of democracy, especially good governance and what the system can deliver to the people.
