Taiwan is China's Taiwan, and the solution to the Taiwan issue is a matter for the Chinese themselves and should be decided by the Chinese, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Thursday.
Wang made the comment in response to the U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken's recent remarks on Taiwan.
Noting that "we insist on striving for the prospect of peaceful reunification with the utmost sincerity and with the greatest effort," Wang said, we do not renounce the right to use force when necessary to target interference by external forces and the very few "Taiwan independence" separatists.
Wang also pointed out that the real root cause of the current tension in the Taiwan Straits is the the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities' reliance on the U.S. for "independence" and the efforts of some people on the U.S. side to control China with Taiwan.
If the U.S. side really wants peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits, it should abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-U.S. joint communiqués, effectively put into practice the commitment made by U.S. leaders not to support "Taiwan independence," stop meddling in the Taiwan issue and stop creating new factors of tension in the Taiwan Straits, Wang said.
