Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang on Thursday said Chinese modernization will offer new opportunities for Equatorial Guinea during a meeting with the country's foreign minister, Simeon Oyono Esono Angue, in Beijing.

During the talks, Qin told Oyono that he was the first foreign minister of an African country to pay an official visit to China since the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

That shows the great importance China has attached to its relations with Equatorial Guinea and the ironclad friendship between the two countries, Qin said.

During the 20th National Congress of the CPC last October, building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects and advancing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization was made the central task.

As China advances modernization across the board, it will pursue high-quality development and expand high-level opening up, which will bring new development opportunities for Equatorial Guinea, said Qin.

The Chinese side is willing to strengthen the docking of development strategies, deepen the exchange of experience in governance between the two sides and help Equatorial Guinea enhance its capacity for independent development, he said.

For his part, Oyono said China's success has brought hope to developing countries.

Equatorial Guinea is committed to the one-China principle and opposes interference in China's internal affairs under the pretext of human rights, Oyono said.

He said his country shares China's philosophy "with a high degree" and supports sovereign equality of states, independence and peaceful resolution of international disputes.

Oyono is paying an official visit to China from March 22 to 26.
