President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Felix Tshisekedi appointed Jean-Pierre Bemba as minister of defense in a cabinet shuffle on Friday.

Bemba, who served as vice president from 2003 to 2006, had been jailed by the International Criminal Court over war crimes and crimes against humanity until his sentence was overturned in 2018.
