At least 23 people were killed after a tornado and strong thunderstorms swept across Mississippi late on Friday, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency tweeted Saturday, adding that dozens were injured and four were missing.
"We have numerous local and state search and rescue teams that continue to work this morning. A number of assets are on the ground to assist those that have been impacted," the agency said.
Death toll is expected to rise further as search and rescue operations continue in Sharkey and Humphreys counties, and there are several injured people in critical condition.
