On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina made landfall on the coast of the U.S. state of Louisiana. More than 1,800 people died and over a million were displaced. Since the hurricane, the African-American community in New Orleans has been recovering slowly.

New Orleans filmmaker Edward Buckles Jr. says Hurricane Katrina wasn't just a natural disaster, in terms of impact as well as recovery. Black communities in New Orleans experienced racism and classism during and after the storm.
