New archaeological findings give insight into Chinese civilization's earliest origins
01:13

Chinese archaeologists have made more significant findings at several historic ruins across the country dating back to the earliest ancient China dynasties, shedding new light on the origins of the Chinese civilization. China is about to unveil the list of the ten most significant archaeological discoveries for the year 2022, which will be selected from among the 22 candidates, including the Erlitou relics site.

Covering an area of three million square meters, the Erlitou relics site in Luoyang City of central China's Henan Province was thought to be the capital of ancient China's first recorded dynasty of Xia (2070-1600 BC). The ruins were first discovered in 1959, featuring parallel roads and walls. A new round of excavations starting in 2019 helped archaeologists further tease out its layout.
