U.S., Canada have no right to point fingers at Taiwan question: Chinese foreign ministry

The U.S. and Canada have no right to point fingers at the Taiwan question as it is China's internal affair and concerns China's sovereignty and territory integrity, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Monday.

Echoing a spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Canada's remarks on Friday, Mao said China resolutely opposes U.S. President Joe Biden and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's recent smear on China during a regular press conference.

China is committed to peaceful development, advocates openness and tolerance, practices win-win cooperation, and has always been a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development and a defender of the international order, she said.

On the contrary, the U.S. and Canada cling to the Cold War mentality, play bloc politics and incite bloc-based confrontation, she said, adding that the two countries should reflect on their own behavior instead of blaming the innocent by distorting facts.

She added that certain countries are hypocritical as they always talk about safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity, but apply double standards when it comes to issues concerning China's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Canada on Friday urged the Canadian side to adhere to mutual respect, seek common ground while reserving differences, and do more to enhance mutual trust, promote cooperation and improve the atmosphere of bilateral relations, rather than the other way around.
