When quarterback (QB) Lamar Jackson took to social media platform Twitter on Monday to announce his request for the Baltimore Ravens to trade him, he created a new storm amid the NFL offseason.

"... As of March 2nd I requested a trade from the Ravens organization for which the Ravens has not been interested in meeting my value, any and everyone that's has met me or been around me know I love the game of football and my dream is to help a team win the super bowl,“ Jackson posted on Twitter." You all are great but I had to make a business decision that was best for my family and I. No matter how far I go or where my career takes me, I'll continue to be close to my fans of Baltimore Flock nation and the entire State of Maryland."

It has been no secret that the negotiations between Jackson and the Ravens have not been going well. He has turned down multiple contract negotiation offers made by the team. The Ravens placed a nonexclusive franchise tag on him in early March so they could match any deal offered by another team to Jackson, receive two first-round draft picks for letting him go, or keep him with $32.416 million for the 2023 season.

Having played five seasons in the NFL, Jackson completed 1,055 of his 1,655 passes for 12,209 yards and 101 touchdowns. He is also one of the league's best running QBs as he had 727 carries that generated 4,437 yards and 24 touchdowns. Jackson was a two-time Pro-Bowler, selected into the first-team All-Pro in 2019 and named the NFL Most Valuable Player in the same year.

ESPN revealed last September that the latest offer rejected by Jackson was a deal that included $133 million guaranteed at signing, $175 million guaranteed for injury and $200 million in total guarantees if he's on the roster on the fifth day of the 2026 league year. This deal would include the second-biggest guaranteed part only next to the fully-guaranteed five-year, $230 contract signed by Deshaun Watson with the Cleveland Browns. The Ravens' offer would also surpass the guaranteed money at the signing of Kyler Murray with the Arizona Cardinals ($103.3 million) and that of Russell Wilson with the Denver Broncos ($124 million).

"I don't know what direction it's going to go," the Ravens' head coach John Harbaugh told reporters at the NFL's annual league meeting on Monday. "I don't have a crystal ball. I can't tell the future. But I know whatever happens is going to be good. It's going to be OK. I have my hopes. I love Lamar Jackson."

"We love Lamar. We want Lamar back," the Ravens' president Sashi Brown said. "We've seen the tweet today. We've been in good communication with him. These are hard circumstances ... but we're committed to trying to get something done."

Though Jackson is not a top passer and has failed to finish either of the past two seasons because of injuries, he remains an attractive target to teams that are one QB away from becoming a competitive franchise. For instance, the Indianapolis Colts have expressed their interest in acquiring Jackson.

"Anytime a special player is available, which he is, you've got to do the work," the Colts' general manager Chris Ballard said. "I'm not going to get into deep discussions on where it's at or what we're doing or what we might do. But what I'll tell you is he's a really good player, really special player. But you never know how any of this will work out."

By contrast, the New York Jets, which have been closely involved in trade rumors with the Green Bay Packers over QB Aaron Rodgers for over a month, ruled out the possibility for them to chase Jackson.

"First of all, Lamar Jackson is a fantastic player, but where we stand is, it would be disingenuous and negotiating in bad faith if we went down that path," the Jets' general manager Joe Douglas told reporters. "We have our plan, we have our process and we're sticking to that. ... We're never going to operate in bad faith."
