China's Fujian Province boosts cultural exchanges on ancient Maritime Silk Road
01:56

The ancient Maritime Silk Road served as an important economic and cultural bridge between the East and the West. Southeast China's Fujian Province, the starting point of the route, has held a series of events to revive the old cultures of the Maritime Silk Road. Featuring history lessons, a cultural gala, and visits to heritage places across Fujian Province, the four-day Maritime Silk Road events offered a diversified platform to understand the ancient culture along the sea route. Flourishing between the 2nd century BC and 15th century AD, the Maritime Silk Road through Fuzhou, Quanzhou and Zhangzhou served as a gateway for trade and cultural exchanges between ancient China and other countries. Participants from the Belt and Road Initiative countries as well as expats living in Fujian came to the events, and shared their stories about the cultures of the Maritime Silk Road. They also visited museums to rediscover the heritage of the route, and learned more about the latest archeological research work.
