China's first 10,000-tonne submarine communications cable-laying vessel was launched in Jiujiang City, east China's Jiangxi Province, on Wednesday.

The vessel, Longyin No. 9, uses electric propulsion and dynamic positioning systems and will be used for cable-laying, burial and maintenance.

It is said that the ship's cable-laying system, handling equipment and electric propulsion system have recognized core technology patents.

The 155-meter ship has a maximum speed of 15 knots and 60 days endurance for sustainable missions. It can carry 10,000 tonnes of cables and is capable of laying cables across the Pacific Ocean starting from China in one go.

The ship has been certified by the China Classification Society, according to a report released on its official WeChat account.

It is expected to be put into service in September after outfitting.
