Mexican Security Minister Rosa Icela Rodriguez said on Wednesday that prosecutors have identified eight people who may be responsible for the fire at a Mexico migrant holding center which has killed at least 39 migrants.

The deaths of these migrants are being investigated as suspected homicides, Sara Irene Herrerias, a prosecutor specializing in human rights, told reporters on Wednesday, accusing those in charge of doing nothing to evacuate the victims.

An investigation was opened "for the crime of homicide and damage to property," though other possible crimes will also be considered, the prosecutor said.
