The track-laying process of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway was completed on Sunday, laying the foundation for full line operation, Power Construction Corp of China (PowerChina), the company responsible for the track-laying task, said in a news release on Tuesday.

The high-speed line, a landmark project under the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, connects Indonesia's capital Jakarta and its fourth-largest city Bandung, which is also the capital of West Java province.

The project adopts Chinese standard high-speed rails, with a total usage of about 38,100 tonnes of rails, according to PowerChina.

During the construction, the company focused on the "knowledge transfer" of high-speed rail professional technology, and imparted high-speed rail technology knowledge, such as rail welding and track laying, to Indonesian employees, PowerChina said.

Indonesian employees have accumulated a lot of experience in high-speed rail construction in practice and they have been able to perform well in their respective positions, it added.

With a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour, the 142 km railway is built with Chinese technology.

Upon its full operation, the railway will cut the journey between Jakarta and Bandung from over three hours to around 40 minutes.

At the end of February, the first training class for operation and maintenance personnel of the railway started at Indonesian Railway Vocational Technical School in Madiun City, East Java Province.

Over 170 Indonesian students joined the class, and are mainly trained for the professional positions of Electric Multiple Units train drivers, operation control center dispatchers, emergency responders and train mechanics.

The training courses are provided by the Chinese operation and maintenance management team, as well as Chinese railroad-related colleges and universities.

The duration of theoretical training will take from one to six months, depending on the specific profession. Upon completion of theoretical training, students will be arranged for practical training on the railway.
