The death toll from a stepwell collapse at a temple in Indore, India rose to 36, NDTV reported on Friday.
The incident happened on the day of the Ram Navami festival when the temple was witnessing a huge rush of devotees.
The worshipers plunged into the stepwell – a stair-lined communal water source – after the floor covering it collapsed in the central city of Indore.
"The State Government is spearheading rescue and relief work at a quick pace. My prayers with all those affected and their families," Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.
