Editor's Note: Over 400 days have passed since the first Summit for Democracy in the U.S. However, the U.S. and its allies have not given the world a good impression of democracy in this period. CGTN presents a series of data pictures to showcase the reality of "Western democracy," and we hope to encourage critical reflection on it around the world. The fifth picture "Challenges to Australian democracy: The compounding human rights and corruption issues" portrays the challenges facing Australian democracy, including systemic racism, ecological issues, corruption allegations, controversial ministerial appointments, and the rise of  "dark money" in political donations.

Australia's democracy is under fire. The country faces significant challenges to its democratic institutions and values, such as deep-rooted racism, corruption scandals, and secret appointments. Will Australia rise to these challenges and safeguard its democratic institutions?
