The BRICS partnership has a major role to play in global development, so said delegates attending a special international two-day forum on BRICS cooperation in the eastern Chinese city of Yangzhou. Our reporter Chen Yilin reports.

MOHAMMED SAQIB Economist, Secretary General of India-China Economic and Cultural Council "The five countries they have a huge potential. They can do a number of thing in all. BRICS is the only platform which can challenge the west hegemony, which can bring in new world order. BRICKS should have their own working mechanism like trading mechanism, their own currency exchanges with their own financial systems. I'm not undermining WTO or international financial system, but for developing countries, all these institutions are dominated by the West and the policies have been recommended by the West. So we need a new impetus and all."

MARCO FERNANDES Researcher, Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research, Brazil "What BRICS countries can propose is a different form of globalization, much more based in the cooperation, much more based in more coordination between countries and consultation, which I think actually, this is what China has been proposing recently when President Xi Jinping in the national congress of CPC, he brought this very interesting concept of the China's model of modernization, which I think it's related to what kind of globalization that the global south needs."

PEDRO STEENHAGEN Senior Specialist, Observa China "Now that we are living in a world full of uncertainties. And the world is our focusing again on security issues. It's also important for us to focus on development. And that's what this seminar tries to do. China remained the more reliable partner to further promote and develop the BRICKS platform. So I think it has been an essential player in the BRICKS platform to make the country stick together in some way."
