Bayern Munich overran Borussia Dortmund 4-2 on Saturday as they reclaimed top spot in the Bundesliga under new coach Thomas Tuchel.

The Bavarians, who face Manchester City in the Champions League quarterfinals on April 11, were in ominous form as they went back into top spot on 55 points, leaving Dortmund two behind in second place with eight matches remaining.

They went in front thanks to Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel's 13th-minute howler when he tried to clear a Dayot Upamecano punt from the Bayern half and saw the ball roll into the net for an own goal.

Thomas Mueller contributed two goals before Kingsley Coman slotted in their fourth goal six minutes into the second half.

Dortmund struck twice late in the game, with an Emre Can penalty in the 72nd minute and a stoppage-time effort from Donyell Malen.

Tuchel, who previously also coached Paris St Germain and Chelsea, as well as Dortmund from 2015 to 2017, could not have dreamed of a better start with Bayern on course for a record-stretching 11th league crown.

Meanwhile, Chelsea in the Premier League lost to Aston Villa 0-2, which sent Villa ninth in the table and Chelsea into the bottom half.

Villa's World Cup winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez made flying saves from Mykhailo Mudryk and Joao Felix, but otherwise Chelsea either dragged the ball wide or ran into well organised Villa defensive traffic.

Elsewhere in Europe, Robert Lewandowski scored twice as leaders Barcelona won 4-0 at bottom side Elche to go 15 points clear of second-placed Real Madrid at the top of Spain's La Liga.
