Climate activists dyed a famous 17th century fountain in Rome black to protest climate change "inaction" on April 1. Three activists from the group "Last Generation" poured a charcoal-based black liquid into the Baroque-style Barcaccia fountain in front of the Spanish Steps. They were later removed by police and could face prosecution in the future. Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri condemned the action and called it an "absolutely wrong gesture."
