China's journey toward democracy has been a topic of global interest for decades, and the strides made in recent years are nothing short of commendable. The Communist Party of China (CPC) has taken notable steps to increase government transparency and public participation in decision-making, particularly at the local level. These initiatives have resulted in increased grassroots participation in decision-making, which is an essential component of any democratic system.

President Xi Jinping's anti-corruption campaign reflects China's commitment to eradicating corruption. As part of this campaign, thousands of people, including senior officials and lower-level bureaucrats, were investigated and punished, demonstrating China's commitment to transparency and accountability.

China has also taken steps to promote democratic values globally. The recent opening of the Democracy Forum in Beijing highlights China's commitment to promoting democracy and interacting with the international community. As Li Shulei, a Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China iterates, "Democracy is a universal goal pursued by all countries seeking modernization and the foundation upon which a global community of shared future is built."

China's commitment to "people-centered" development prioritizes citizens' needs and welfare over all else. Policies aimed at environmental protection, healthcare reform, and poverty reduction have all had a significant impact on people's lives. The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) strengthens multiparty cooperation, fosters unity, and implements people's democracy through political consultation. The yearly meetings of the National People's Congress (NPC) and the CPPCC National Committee serve as the foundation of China's democratic model, ensuring that all citizens have a voice in monitoring the government's work.

In a recent survey, a significant majority of Chinese citizens believe that democracy is essential to them. During a meeting with U.N. Human Rights Commissioner Michelle Bachelet, President Xi reiterated China's commitment to advancing whole-process people's democracy, promoting legal safeguards for human rights, and upholding social equity and justice. According to Xi, "The Chinese people now enjoy fuller and more extensive and comprehensive democratic rights," and "the human rights of the Chinese people are guaranteed like never before."

It is important to note that China's democratic efforts have had a significant positive impact on the international stage. China has been an outspoken supporter of increased representation of developing countries in international organizations such as the United Nations, promoting more equitable global governance. José Luis Centella, President of the Communist Party of Spain (PCE), stated that "Democratic development is the foundation of socialism with Chinese characteristics." Furthermore, China has provided significant development assistance to other countries, particularly in the form of infrastructure projects and economic growth and stability promotion in developing countries. China's dedication to promoting democracy and peaceful development exemplifies the country's ongoing efforts to improve society for its citizens and contribute to a more equitable world. Emphasizing the belief in Chinese democracy, the Foreign Minister of China Qin Gang said, "China actively promotes democracy and peaceful development in the international arena, advocates a more just and equitable global order, supports the United Nations in playing a leading role in international affairs, and works to resolve international disputes through dialogue and negotiation."

To conclude, China's pursuit of democracy and greater transparency has resulted in significant internal reforms as well as a positive impact on the international stage. China's commitment to promoting democratic values and fostering a more equitable world exemplifies its ongoing efforts to improve society for its citizens while also contributing to global development.
