The Yellow River Delta National Nature Reserve is located at the river's estuary in east China's Shandong Province, where the river meets the Bohai Sea to form a unique estuarine wetland ecosystem. The wetland reserve aims to protect the ecosystem as well as rare and endangered birds by providing a better habitat. The number of bird species has increased to 373, with 25 species under first-class state protection.
