A cold front swept across swathes of northern China from Sunday to Monday, bringing some unexpected springtime snowfall to several areas.

Snowfall hit Zhangjiakou City in north China's Hebei Province on Sunday afternoon, with the average snowfall reaching 24.6 millimeters in Zhangbei County as of 7 a.m. on Monday.

Snow began to fall in some places of Chengde City, also in Hebei, on Monday.

To ensure safety, the local traffic and road maintenance departments dispatched more people on roads to direct traffic and clear snow.

Snow also hit northwest China's Gansu Province from Sunday to Monday, causing temporary closure of some expressways.

The cold front brought rain to some places of north China's Shanxi Province from Sunday night through Monday, causing a drop in temperature.

The bad weather also reduced visibility in the capital city of Taiyuan on Monday, with traffic jams occurring on some roads.
