Renovated Beijing Workers' Stadium to reopen soon

After two years, renovation of Beijing Workers' Stadium is complete and the sports complex is expected to be put into use soon. /CFP

As the host venue for the Chinese Super League (CSL) club Beijing Guoan, it is reported to be officially put into operation for the opening ceremony and opening match of the 2023 CSL season in mid-April. /CFP

A total of 2,000 new seats have been added and the stadium now has the capacity of 68,000. The cooling system has also been upgraded for spectators' comfort. /CFP

With the removal of running tracks around the venue, the renovated stadium is designed to be the first international standard football pitch in Beijing, which is equipped with mainstream facilities used in the World Cup. /CFP

The surrounding area will be established as a city park, including a shopping mall, metro stations and exercise facilities. /CFP

First built in 1959, the Workers' Stadium is an iconic architecture in the Chinese capital, which hosted the 1990 Asian Games, 2008 Summer Olympics as well as concerts and performances by world top stars in the past few decades. /CFP
