From April 1 to 5, a strong cold air was expected to sweep China from west to east, causing the largest range of heavy rainfall and snow in central and east China so far this year, according to the China Meteorological Administration.

In 24 hours starting at 2 p.m. Tuesday, heavy rain lashed parts of Liaoning, Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Fujian and Guangdong provinces and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, according to the National Meteorological Center (NMC). Among them, eastern Jiangxi, western Fujian and northern Guangxi experienced rainstorm, with an hourly precipitation of 100 to 140 millimeters.

Due to heavy rainfall, 10 rivers in south China experienced flooding above warning level, with the maximum over-alarm range of 0.01 meters to 2.12 meters. The Ministry of Water Resources has been working on preventing floods.

The rain belt moved eastward on Wednesday and receded in most areas.
