The guqin is an instrument with a history of over 3,000 years. Yet in all that time its design and sound have remained virtually unchanged. In 2003, the guqin and its music were proclaimed as part of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO. But how has this ancient instrument withstood the musical test of time? How do its slow, gentle melodies resonate in fast-paced modern China?
