The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) is conducting a three-day drill in the Taiwan Straits and off the northern, southern and eastern coastal areas of Taiwan Island.

The operation includes simultaneous organized patrols and advances around the island. A spokesperson for the PLA's Eastern Theater Command says the drill is a strong warning to separatists who seek "Taiwan independence" and other external forces.
