Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane struck a late winner in a 2-1 home victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday to boost his side's hopes of a top-four finish.

Spurs took the lead when Son Heung-min's 25-yard curling finish made him the 34th player in the league, and the first from Asia, to score 100 Premier League goals, but was shortly leveled by Brighton's Lewis Dunk.

Kane netted a late goal when his deflected shot from a Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg pass beat Brighton keeper Jason Steele, although the biggest talking point until then was an altercation between Tottenham caretaker manager Cristian Stellini and Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi. Both were red-carded in the second half after exchanging angry words before kickoff.

Tottenham now sit fifth in the league with 53 points, but have played a game more than Newcastle United and Manchester United, placed third and fourth, respectively, with 56 points each after both also won on Saturday. Brighton dropped to seventh with 46 points.

Meanwhile, Manchester City claimed a 4-1 win at bottom side Southampton to keep the pressure on leaders Arsenal.

Elsewhere in Europe, Samu Chukwueze scored twice to inflict a further blow on Real Madrid's title hopes as they were beaten 3-2 by Villarreal at home in Spain's La Liga.

Lionel Messi scored one goal and set up another for Sergio Ramos as Paris Saint-Germain won 2-0 at Nice to restore their six-point lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table in France.

Lazio beat Juventus 2-1 at home through Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Mattia Zaccagni to consolidate their second place in Serie A in Italy.

Defender Matthijs de Ligt handed Bayern Munich a 1-0 victory over Freiburg, keeping them two points clear at the top of the table with seven games remaining in the German Bundesliga.
