The second Beijing International Dance Video Festival (BDVF) will be launched from April 28th to May 3rd, featuring major sections including film screenings, dance creations, performances, workshops, forums, and award ceremonies.

"Within the performing arts industry, attention has been given to this new art form of 'dance film' in recent years," said Liu Dan, deputy secretary general of China Association of Performing Arts.  "Currently, the Chinese performing arts market is in a new stage of development, which provides unlimited opportunities and possibilities for the future development of dance videos."

At a press conference in Beijing, it was announced that as a key section of the 13th Beijing International Dance Film Festival, the BDVF 2023 could attract more professionals from inside and outside the industry to explore this new form of art, and jointly promote the high-quality development of the Chinese performing arts industry.

With the theme of "Harmony" this year, the Beijing International Dance Video Festival seeks to encourage greater collaboration and innovation in the fields of dance and film, and foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for both art forms among the public.

This year's art season will also select outstanding dance films for official screening during the Beijing International Film Festival, including Chinese dance films "Dance Charm" and "Ballet in War," and international dance films such as 3D-version "Pina," "Cunningham," "Dancer," "La Danseuse" and "Chhakka Panja 4." All these films will be shown in designated theaters around Beijing during the film festival.

Organizers say dance videos are on the rise globally, and there is plenty of room to develop it in China. "The art season, after last year's experiment amid the pandemic, will integrate more artists, performers, art forms, and high-level academic exchanges into one platform," said Gao Shan, the festival's art director. "We are happy to see the huge potential here in China within this relatively niche field."
