In America, blood is big business. It makes up 2.69 percent of total exports in the U.S., which supplies 94 percent of paid plasma used globally. While most countries have banned compensated blood donations, the U.S. allows a person to "donate" plasma twice a week, or 104 times a year, for an average of $35 to $65 per visit.

CGTN Global Stringer talked to people outside a plasma center. One interviewee said that some Americans don't work and make a living by selling their plasma. "One lady told me she tries to get her family members to do it as well," he said.
