A sixth body was found under the rubble of an apartment building that collapsed in the southern French city of Marseille on Sunday, French news channel BFMTV reported Monday evening.

The first five bodies that had already been removed from the collapsed building have been sent for DNA identification.

"There is still hope, we can still find people who are alive," Mayor of Marseille Benoit Payan told BFMTV. "Step by step, we are going slowly so as not to possibly harm, injure or kill people who are still alive."

The rescue operation will continue "as long as there is hope," Payan said.

Two neighboring buildings were partially damaged by the explosion, and around 200 residents had to be evacuated from the neighborhood.
