The deer is often considered as a symbol of spiritual authority in many cultures, however, the roe deer in northeast China earned the moniker "silly roe deer" due to its ridiculous behavior. 

As with most herbivores, roe deer are born with keen hearing and sharp vision, but an approaching bird is enough to trigger a stress response. If they encounter a predator, they may bury their heads in the snow as if they can avoid the danger by not seeing it. 

The small deer may seem "silly," but is actually a forest champion and a cornerstone species of northern Chinese ecosystems. Check out this episode to learn more!
