A batch of robotic chargers has been "on duty" at an electrical vehicle (EV) charging station in Wuxi City, east China's Jiangsu Province, China Media Group (CMG) reported on Thursday.
China has become the world's largest market for EVs for eight consecutive years. As the country strives to reach its green goals, the EV trend is likely to see continuous momentum, thus how to ease range anxiety of EV owners and provide convenient charging services are getting important.
EV owners normally need to find charging piles – they are often fixed on the ground and sometimes quite in need, causing long queues – to top up their cars.
But at this charging station in Wuxi, EV owners can just wait where they are and robotic chargers will come to serve them.
"I think the robotic charger is really convenient," an EV owner told CMG.
"As the range of my car is only about 300 kilometers, the battery can be charged to 90 percent in a half hour," another EV owner said.
The robotic chargers are equipped with integrated storage and charging functions. They can store electricity at night during the non-peak hours and supply power for four to five vehicles with one full charge, according to CMG's report.
Through the big data analysis of the utilization of charging piles in the station, staff at the station can remotely control the robots to aid the charging capacity, avoiding long queues.
