Chinese divers sweep four gold medals on Day 1 at Diving World Cup

The Chinese diving team swept all four gold medals on offer on the first day of the ongoing Diving World Cup in Xi'an, northwest China's Shaanxi Province on Friday.

Olympic champions Chen Yuxi/Quan Hongchan take the first gold medal in women's synchronized 10-meter platform.

They led with a big margin throughout the competition and won the title with 373.20 points. Team Great Britain and Team Germany rank second and third respectively, with 310.44 points and 282.78 points. 

"The spectators' cheers helped me to perform better. I felt they could give me more strength," the 16-year-old Chen said after the match.

China later added another gold medal in men's synchronized 10-meter platform with Yang Hao and partner Lian Junjie taking 457.23 points.

"This is the first international competition this year, so I felt a bit nervous. I will adjust my mindset to make more achievements in [the] next games," Yang said.

Chang Yani/Chen Yiwen won the title in women's synchronized 3-meter springboard with 329.52 points, 48.09 points higher than second-placed Great Britain. followed by Germany.

In the men's synchronized 3-meter springboard, Long Daoyi/Wang Zongyuan's stable performances earned them the gold medal with 484.74 points. 

A total of 63 divers from 13 teams compete in nine events using a new, simpler World Cup competition format as a preliminary-to-final for individual events and a straight-to-final for synchronized and team events.

Xi'an is the first leg of the Diving World Cup, with the second stop in Montreal, Canada, from May 5 to 7 and the Super Final in Berlin, Germany, from August 4 to 6.
