In a statement issued on Saturday after foreign ministers from Egypt, Iraq, Jordan and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries met in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Arab leaders declared that a political solution is the only way out of the Syrian crisis, and that an Arab leadership role is essential for ending the conflict.

The statement also mentioned Syria's possible return to the Arab League, though no decision has yet been made.
