The Philadelphia Eagles have reached an agreement with their quarterback (QB) Jalen Hurts over a five-year, $255 million contract extension, with $179.304 million of guaranteed money, according to ESPN on Monday.

With an average annual salary of $51 million, Hurts' new deal sets a new NFL record on this front. It is also the first contract that includes a no-trade clause given by the Eagles in franchise history. He is currently in the fourth year of the four-year, $6 million rookie deal he signed in 2020 when the Eagles drafted him with the 53rd pick.

Hurts' salary will occupy $6.15 million in 2023, $13.56 million in 2024, $21.77 million in 2025 and $31.77 million in the salary cap in 2026 respectively in the following four years.

2022 was Hurts' second full-time starting season and he completed 306 of his 460 passes for 3,701 yards and 22 touchdowns with six interceptions in 15 games. Meanwhile, he also finished 165 carries for 760 yards and 13 touchdowns. The Eagles finished the regular season with a 14-3 record as the leader of the National Football Conference.

Having knocked out the New York Giants and the San Francisco 49ers while limiting both to only seven points – the Eagles scored 38 and 31 points in the two games respectively – to reach Super Bowl LVII. Though Hurts threw 27-for-38 to generate 304 passing yards and one touchdown as well as rushed 70 yards and three touchdowns, his side lost to the Kansas City Chiefs led by QB Patrick Mahomes 38-35 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on February 12.

Having produced a total of 43 touchdowns in the 2022 season, Hurts surpassed Donovan McNabb to keep the franchise record in this area for himself. He was also selected into the Pro Bowl and the second-team All-Pro.
