Global carmakers plan to unveil more than 150 new models at the 20th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition, which kicked off on Tuesday.
The exhibition, also known as Auto Shanghai 2023, which will run until April 27, is the biggest international auto show to be held worldwide so far this year.
Over 1,000 enterprises from all over the world have registered to participate in the auto show at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai. With 13 indoor exhibition halls, it boasts a total exhibition area of more than 360,000 square meters.
The exhibitors include both carmakers and auto parts suppliers. The auto show will see the display of more than 1,500 vehicles, of which 150 are new models and two-thirds are new energy vehicles (NEVs).
"The transportation industry is embracing the concepts of low-carbon and green travel and intelligence in the new era. Many of the world's top brands are bringing their NEV models to the auto show this year. During the event, more than 150 press conferences are expected to be held," said Zhou Minhao, president of the Shanghai Council for the Promotion of International Trade.
According to the Shanghai Customs department, all the imported exhibits for Auto Shanghai 2023, with a total value of about $25 million, have cleared customs and are ready for the exhibition.
