As the temperature rises, the best time to observe fireflies at night approaches. Qingshen County in southwest China's Sichuan Province is a popular destination for many bug enthusiasts. The ocean of bamboo forest provides adequate protection for these gleaming insects as they live out their brief lives. People have been pouring in since March in the hopes of witnessing the dreamy night view.

There are over 2000 different types of fireflies in the world, with China having 200 to 300 different species. The insect can only live for seven days in the wild. However, a research team led by Professor Fu Xinhua of the School of Plant Science and Technology at Huazhong Agricultural University has made a breakthrough by not only artificially breeding fireflies but also extending their lives to months.

However, people are advised not to use any strong lights or flash lights when watching, and not to catch them because it is mating season now for the insects and any intrusive behavior may startle them, affecting their breeding.

Researchers believe that the chances of seeing a magnificent sea of glittering fireflies are higher in dense woods with damp air and a water source nearby. More bugs will be discovered, especially after a shower.
