China National Botanical Garden has made significant progress a year after its establishment in Beijing.

The garden has collected over 17,000 plants of all kinds, including nearly 1,000 types of endangered plants, making it a demonstration zone for plant diversity protection in the country.

"At present, the construction plan of the China National Botanical Garden is finished. The plan is to establish it into a world-class botanical garden and will be implemented in two stages. In the first stage, by 2027, all aspects of the China National Botanical Garden will be improved with better core functions and key projects being launched to lead the high-quality development of botanical gardens across the country. In the second phase, by 2035, the goal is to comprehensively build a national botanical garden with Chinese characteristics, a world-class one with harmonious living conditions," said He Ran, management committee director of the China National Botanical Garden.

The garden has a herbarium, the largest of its kind in Asia. Over the past year, nearly 140,000 new botanical specimens have been added, and the collection of specimens has reached 3.01 million, ranking top in the scale and overall size of all Asian herbariums.

More than 100 ornamental begonia varieties bred overseas are displayed here.

In addition, 22 new varieties of plants such as cloves, peonies and hosta have also been cultivated at the botanical garden over the past year.
