On April 19, Lin Hui, a giant panda on loan to Thailand, died at 1:10 a.m. local time, according to the Chinese Consulate General in Chiang Mai.
The China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda (CCRCGP) received information that Lin Hui suddenly fell into a coma at about 9:30 p.m. on April 18. Experts guided the rescue and treatment work via video link, but despite best efforts, it was ultimately unsuccessful in saving its life.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson on Wednesday expressed sadness over the passing of the giant panda. He added that China will work with Thai experts to investigate the cause of death and handle the aftermath in all efforts.
Lin Hui arrived at Chiang Mai Zoo in 2003 and has lived there for nearly 20 years. Under the careful and loving care of Chinese and Thai professionals, she has brought much joy to the Thai people over the years and promoted cooperation between China and Thailand on giant panda conservation.
