Panda princess sulks as feeder fails to lift spirits

A beloved giant panda exhibited an uncharacteristically downbeat mood and even rejected a delicious snack as a feeder attempted to cheer her up at a research center in southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The bear, named Qing Bao but also known as Mei Xin to her fans, was seen basking belly-side up on a hillside in the video footage from the multimedia platform iPanda. Noticing she might be feeling low, her keeper approached and tried to cheer her up with belly rubs, but to no avail.

Much to the keeper's surprise, the panda even brushed away the bamboo shoots he offered, which she rarely does. Instead, the grumpy princess simply rolled over and covered her face as if to say "just leave me alone."

Qing Bao and her twin brother Qing Zai were born in September 2021 at the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas (CCRCGP) in Sichuan.

The CCRCGP is a world leading institution for breeding and conservation of giant pandas, known as one of China's national treasures.

The center has established a global platform for giant panda-related cooperation and exchanges with 18 overseas zoos from 16 countries and regions, as well as 39 domestic animal breeding institutions and more than 10 scientific research institutes.

The iPanda platform provides round-the-clock live broadcasts of the daily life and activities of pandas in the nature reserves of southwest China.
