The Yellow River Culture International Communication Forum was held in Dongying, Shandong on Tuesday. Liu Yuzhu, chairperson of the China Foundation for Cultural Heritage Conservation, said it is important to dig deeper into the cultural connotations of the Yellow River, revitalize this crucial piece of China's cultural heritage, and promote the narratives associated with the Yellow River.

Liu said now it is time to improve the way in which world heritage sites in the Yellow River Basin are managed, while working within the current framework to make sure they are properly protected.

Natural and cultural heritage sites in the area should be earmarked, and more studies conducted into ways of conserving water and protecting the agricultural and industrial heritage of the Yellow River Basin, he added. This will expand the list of world-class cultural landmarks along China's "Mother River," he noted.

Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Gao Peiyong shared more insights during his keynote speech and stressed the need to strengthen the platform for academic and cultural exchanges related to the Yellow River.

Gao recommended making the most of universities, research institutions, and academic societies to serve this goal. He suggested increasing support for key research projects and teams, especially integrated research on the Yellow River's culture, ecology and water conservation.

Discussing the channels through which audiences in Germany and other European countries can learn about this, Li Bohan, a German expert from the Foreign Languages Press publishing house, said China's external communication agencies need to tell better stories about the Yellow River.

"There is great potential for the overseas promotion of Yellow River culture and ecotourism. Additionally, translators can play a role in promoting this overseas," he said.

With the theme of "Opening a New Chapter in the International Communication of Yellow River Culture," the forum included roundtable dialogues on such topics as "International Communication Strategies of The Yellow River Culture" and "Experience and Practice of Media Communication."
