China stresses enterprises' role in innovation, reaffirms support for private sector

The first meeting of the 20th central commission for deepening overall reform was held on Friday afternoon in Beijing.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, presided over the meeting and delivered a speech.

The meeting stressed the principal role of enterprises in innovation and pledged facilitation of the same. 

Focusing on national strategies and needs of industrial development, the meeting agreed to "increase enterprise innovation support, actively encourage and effectively guide private enterprises to participate in major national innovation, and promote the role of enterprises in key core technology innovation and major original technology breakthroughs." 

Besides, the meeting noted that support for the development of private sector is a consistent policy of the CPC Central Committee.

It pledged to optimize the private sector's development environment, remove the institutional barriers that restrict the fair participation of private enterprises in the market competition and guide private enterprises to find their right positioning in high-quality development through their own reform and development, compliance operation, transformation and upgrading, and constantly improve the quality of development.
