China continues to be committed in providing humanitarian assistance to countries in need, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated early this month.

The ministry, in a response to accusations of so-called "Chinese debt traps" repeated by Western politicians, said that in recent years, the number of countries receiving aid increased from more than 110 to more than 160.

The international community has seen through the "tricks" of the West, said Wang Wenbin, the ministry's spokesperson.

He said that China has been a "real friend" in helping Africa and other developing countries escape from the "poverty trap."

Meanwhile, Luo Zhaohui, director of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) last month, said that China's assistance is akin to helping friends, which is both altruistic and mutually beneficial.

China refrains from taking actions that is only for its own benefit, Luo said.

Luo said developing countries now have a more urgent desire to focus on development and strengthen cooperation and subsequently, their expectations for China have further increased.

China has pledged to continue to improve its ability to coordinate foreign aid and international cooperation, help build a balanced and inclusive global development partnership, and promote a community with a shared future for mankind.
