FM: Chinese modernization with huge population to boost global economic recovery
CGTN

Chinese modernization – the modernization of a huge population – will surely inject a stronger impetus into the global economic recovery, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang stated at the opening ceremony of the Lanting Forum on Chinese Modernization and the World on Friday.

Since the reform and opening-up policy was introduced in late 1978, more than 800 million Chinese people have been lifted out of poverty and over 400 million Chinese people have entered the middle-income group, Qin noted.

China's development over the past decades has made the country a major trading partner of more than 140 countries and regions worldwide, he added. Qin went on to say that $320 million of Chinese direct investment flows to the rest of the world daily, and more than 3,000 foreign-funded enterprises settle in China every month.

In the last decade, China's contribution to the global economy surpassed the total of the G7 countries' contribution, Qin pointed out.

As over 1.4 billion Chinese people step into modernization, Qin said this huge population—which is more than the current population of developed countries combined—is sure to provide a more powerful impetus to the world economy.

Mentioning the numerous political and business leaders who attended the China Development Forum and the Boao Forum for Asia held in March, Qin said the participants all wanted to seize the new opportunities brought about by China's high-quality development and high-level opening-up. They opposed decoupling from China and looked forward to working with China.
