British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Friday appointed Oliver Dowden as his new deputy prime minister, while making lawmaker Alex Chalk the new secretary of state for justice.

The appointments came hours after Dominic Raab's resignation, which was triggered by an independent report into allegations that he bullied staff members while working at several government departments.
