The death toll has risen to eight after a tornado hit villages in and around Nay Pyi Taw, capital of Myanmar, on Friday, local media reported, adding that rescue efforts are underway.
The tornado struck the villages in Lewe Town of Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory at around 6:45 p.m. local time (GMT 1215), the Myanmar Fire Services Department said.
More than 100 others were injured and over 200 houses were damaged due to the tornado.
