Sudan's army said on Saturday it had agreed to help evacuate foreign nationals as sporadic gunfire and air strikes echoed across Khartoum despite promises by warring sides to cease fire for three days after a week of strife that has killed hundreds.

The statement said, Chairman of Sudan's Transitional Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, after speaking with leaders of various countries, has agreed to coordinate efforts to evacuate diplomats and nationals from the United States, Britain, China and France out of the country on military airplanes.
