In 2018, El Salvador shifted its diplomatic recognition from Taipei to Beijing. "It is consistent with the international policy and foreign relations to recognize the one-China principle," says Félix Ulloa, El Salvador's vice president. Being a sovereign nation, El Salvador will never accept any pressure from any country to decide which country it should develop diplomatic relations with, he says.
