Xingkai Lake on the border between China and Russia has completely thawed amid rising temperatures, causing the melting ice and flowing water to form a picturesque scene. At Mishan City, ice floes have turned the area into a crystal wonderland. With a surface area of 4,380 square kilometers, Xingkai Lake, known as Lake Khanka on the Russian side, is the largest boundary lake between the two countries. The lake is a multi-functional body of water, serving in flood control, storage, drainage, irrigation and tourism. Due to its relatively high latitude, the lake starts to freeze at the end of November and begins to thaw in April. The melting of the ice on Xingkai Lake also marks the beginning of a new fishing season.
