04:44

April 24 marks Space Day of China, an occasion to remember the country's achievements in its quest to conquer space.

President Xi Jinping has on many occasions stressed the promotion of women's all-round development. Throughout his time in public service, he has been encouraging Chinese women to pursue their dreams in the field of aerospace and science.

His encouragement inspired Liu Yang and Wang Yaping to realize their flying dream. In May 2010, they became members of China's first batch of female astronauts. In June 2012, Liu conducted the Shenzhou-9 manned space mission, becoming China's first female astronaut to go to outer space. Meanwhile, Wang became China's first female astronaut to conduct extravehicular activities. She joined astronaut Zhai Zhigang on a spacewalk that lasted six hours and 25 minutes on November 8, 2021. The two women have made great contributions to human space exploration.

In addition to paying attention to women in the aerospace industry, Xi has also expressed hope that women from all walks of life would undertake great causes and achieve their aspirations. Watch the video to learn more about women's development in China.
